Hearing Screenings in Sydney Schools
We offer convenient, high-quality hearing screenings within Sydney schools.
Why Hearing Matters:
Like vision and dental checks, hearing should be part of every child’s routine health care. Early detection of hearing issues supports better learning, clearer speech, and stronger classroom engagement—for the benefit of both student and teacher.
Free for Schools:
There’s no cost to your school within the Sydney metro area. Parents/guardians pay a small fee of $45 + GST per child.
*A travel fee applies for schools outside the Sydney metropolitan area
Who Should Be Screened?
All students benefit from hearing checks. Targeted screening is especially recommended for:
-
Preschoolers (before starting school)
-
Kindergarten to Year 2 (early learning foundation)
-
Years 3-6 (NAPLAN, OC, Selective exams, high school transition)
-
High School students (dynamic, fast-paced learning)
-
Learning support students
-
Children born overseas
-
Any child with learning or behavioral challenges
Support Beyond the Screen:
If a screening indicates a concern, we’ll follow up promptly with parents and teachers to guide the next steps. We’ll help arrange any necessary appointments at our clinic—ensuring no one is left wondering what to do next.

Our School Collaborations -
Past, Present & Future
Our clinicians have proudly supported these schools through current and previous roles. Here are just some of the wonderful communities we've worked with to support teachers and students through our hearing screening program in school.

What is a Hearing Screen?
Our hearing screen is a safe, non-invasive and reliable way to assess your student or child's hearing.
Our screen is performed by trained paediatric audiologists who will play a game with your child to assess their hearing. For older children, a simple "yes" response is used.
Otoscopy and tympanometry will also be performed (outer and middle ear check).
The screen takes approximately 10-15 min.
A report will be emailed to you outlining your child's results. If your child requires further assessment, follow-up in clinic will be recommended.

 Understanding the Key Difference

Hearing Screen &
Diagnostic Assessment

A school hearing screen is a reliable and efficient way to check if a child’s hearing falls within the normal range and ensures hearing is optimal for academic learning. It helps to identify children who may need further diagnostic assessment.
A diagnostic hearing assessment is a comprehensive test in-clinic that measures how well a child hears a range of sounds and speech. It identifies the type and degree of hearing loss and is considered the gold standard for diagnosing, managing, and monitoring hearing concerns over time.
*If your child's school screening suggests a possible issue, the next step is a diagnostic assessment to fully understand their hearing—Kids Hearing will offer a reduced fee for this next appointment.
